Art
Here at Parson Cross, we intend to instil a deep love of art, craft, and design by teaching skills and varying techniques. We want the children to believe that they can become artists, architects, designers and curators. We have invented a broad and balanced curriculum that delivers engaging lessons that focus on Artists both past and present. We intend to inspire our pupils, celebrate others’ works, and create experiences that enrich their knowledge and build their understanding.
In EYFS, we will implement continuous opportunities for the children to explore the natural environment. They will have a range of media and materials on offer that they can use to self-express their creativeness. They will also be taught new skills to extend their understanding that they will be able to repeat and achieve independently.
At Parson Cross Church of England Primary School, the art curriculum is designed to inspire creativity and confidence in every child. During the first rotation, pupils explore fine art and pattern work, drawing inspiration from the techniques and styles of famous artists both past and present. This includes focused studies and communal class pieces that celebrate artistic expression. In the second rotation, the curriculum shifts to sculpture and textiles, allowing children to experiment with three-dimensional forms and fabric-based creations. These experiences are enriched by gallery visits and opportunities to meet real artists, helping pupils to see themselves as creators and curators of their own artistic journeys

Art Policy
At Parson Cross Church of England Primary School, we are thrilled to offer our pupils a rich programme of visits and trips that bring art to life beyond the classroom. These include inspiring journeys to the Yorkshire Sculpture Park, the historic Chatsworth Estate, the creative hub of Saltaire, and a variety of galleries and museums across the region. These experiences are thoughtfully spread throughout the school year and across year groups, ensuring that every child has the opportunity to engage with art in the real world. Through these visits, pupils gain hands-on experience, deepen their appreciation of artistic expression, and connect classroom learning with cultural heritage and contemporary creativity.
